Energy Opportunities - The Global Brainstorms

Energy Opportunities - The Global Brainstorms

In the face of massive population growth and constrained resources, how do we plan for an energy-dependent future? Can the world make choices now that will pull millions out of poverty, bring electricity to all, continue global economic growth and avoid the health consequences of dirty fuels and climate change?

Energy Opportunities is a series of executive brainstorms staged around the world investigating game changing methods to bring about a clean energy future.

We bring together some of the most exciting minds from academia, government, Fortune 500 companies and the media and challenge them to devise solutions to the most pressing issues facing the energy sector. The brainstorms are a dynamic way to bring leaders and thinkers together to thrash out their ideas in a unique way. Participants include executives from the likes of Vodafone, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, the National University of Singapore, Friends of the Earth, the Guardian newspaper, the US Security Council, Secretaries of State and international city leaders.

Brainstorm participants work in mixed groups to share ideas, debate and challenge each other. Each team then has 90 seconds to convince the rest of the group that theirs is the radical new idea that will lead us to a clean energy future. Each event is a fun, lively experience – one that participants will never forget, and that just might lead us a step closer to finding the energy solutions the world is looking for.

Energy Opportunities will present some of the toughest questions facing the energy sector to the industry’s best and brightest as they work to develop smart solutions. How can we leverage information technology, how do we create cities in Asia that allow for movement of people and goods and how can India develop into the world’s most populated country while creating energy security? At the centre of all of these topics is the big question - how do we create, harness and maintain innovation?

Energy Opportunities brainstorms have been held in 8 global cities over the past three years. In 2011 we grappled with issues of energy security in Singapore, fast-growingenergy demand in Dalian, China, and transport solutions in London. In 2012 attention was on energy technology, the viability of gas as a sustainable energy source, and whatEurope’s economic woes mean for the energy sector.

The brainstorms take place this year in LondonBangkok and Delhi and, at the end of the year, the best ideas will be reviewed and the most workable solutions brought forward at a concluding event in London

This website deepens the experience for participants and those unable to make the events through videos, animations and articles that illuminate and expand on the these vital topics. It is also a place where you can air your own views: what do you think are the key questions that need to be asked and answered? What do you see as the solution to a clean energy future?
